Position & Primary Responsibilities

MIO is seeking a Fund Accountant to join the Finance Team and primarily support our group that focuses on the Fund-ofFunds platform.

The individual will be responsible for working within the Finance and Accounting team to record, reconcile, and process various transactions for our Fund of Funds vehicles involving partnership accounting (i.e., investment and investor transaction, fund-related accruals, and expenses). The Fund Accountant will be expected to help with the month-end closing and reporting processes, including pricing our fund investments, reconciling, and reviewing investor documents.

This position will also provide opportunities to be involved in special projects and exposure to the responsibilities of other groups within Finance. MIO has transitioned to a hybrid working arrangement. The new hire will be expected to report to our Midtown, New York offices 3 days per week. COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory for this position (subject to accommodation for health and religious reasons).

Desired Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in fund accounting with exposure to daily reconciliations, transaction processing, investment pricing, investor transaction review, and processing and expense accruals
  • Understanding of Hedge Fund/FoF accounting platform and basic knowledge of investments
  • CPA candidate or licensure is preferred, not required

The successful candidate will

  • Have the ability to work independently or in a team format, depending on the nature of duties, including working with other functional areas of the organization
  • Have a deep understanding of accounting principles and processes, including journal entries/balance sheet/and income statement presentation and results
  • Develop a vocabulary that demonstrates an understanding of the Fund of Funds structure and transactions and the Investment Management processes at MIO
  • Possess attention to detail and time management skills with an adherence to meet deadlines and workflow while ensuring a high-quality work output
  • Have strong communication, written and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop critical relationships with both internal stakeholders and external counterparts with various levels of seniority
  • Be technically sound with strong excel skills and interest in working with various accounting systems, including the general ledger system (Geneva)
